Frequently Asked Questions

Q: What are SP's
A: We offer an extensive library of over 3,000 nonstandard products (SP's) we have designed, developed and manufactured for OEMs worldwide. Semiconductor Circuits achieves innovative results by working closely with our customers to meet their DC to DC power requirements. For example, some of the customizations we offer include the following: Input Voltages:15-50Vdc; 40-100Vdc ; Extended temperature; Special pin-out; Different input or outputs ;I/O Isolation >2800Vdc; DIN rail packaging; Regulation combinations and more...Please contact us @ sales@dcdc.com for information on specific models.
Q: Do you offer RoHS compliant converters?
A: Yes, we do manufacture RoHS compliant converters. Please contact us for model availability.
Q: Can I order directly from Semiconductor Circuits, Inc.?
A: Yes, you can order direct from Semiconductor Circuits, Inc. Toll Free Outside New Hampshire Only: (888) 438-3232, (888) GET-DCDC ; In New Hampshire: (603) 893-2330; Fax: (603) 893-6280, or e-mail sales@dcdc.com
Q: Do you accept credit cards?
A: We accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express.
Q: Where are you located?
A: Semiconductor Circuits, Inc. present corporate headquarters and manufacturing facility is located one hour northeast of Boston, at 14C Industrial Way, Atkinson, New Hampshire 03811 USA. For company profile click here.
Q: Do you have distributors?
A: Yes,click here for a list of our distributors
Q: Is Semiconductor Circuits, Inc. ISO registered?
A: Yes, we are an ISO 9001:2000 UL Registered firm.  For a copy of our certification (PDF file) please click here. (You must have Adobe to open this file)
Q: Is there a minimum load rating for your converters?
A: There is a minimum load requirement on some of the converter lines Semiconductor Circuits, Inc. manufactures. The newer series of converters ( SC10N, SC60B and SC125A Series ) do not require a minimum load.  However, the industry as a whole has a minimum load requirement of 10% of the rated maximum.
Q: What is thermal derating?
A: Thermal derating is a definition of how much power a converter can apply under certain operating and environmental conditions. All converters dissipate heat. This heat can and does shorten the life of the converter. To minimize the negative effects of heat and to ensure maximum product life, thermal limitations are defined. Encapsulated converters specify maximum case temperature while newer open framed designs specify hot spot temperatures. These thermal limitations are effected by many variables such as airflow, ambient temperature and heat sinking. Because the variables are so dynamic, a common point of reference is assigned (thermal maximum) and the variables are then graphed. This exercise results in a derating chart. The derating charts only purpose is to define the thermal derating of a converter.
Q: How does the trim function work?
A: The trim function on a Semiconductor Circuit's converter provides the customer with an adjustable output. To activate the trim function a trim resistor is placed between the trim pin and either the + or - output pin. The amount and the direction of the change is based on the resistor value and the associated output pin respectively. The output for our dual converters is trackable. The converter has a maximum trim of +/- 10%. Each model has different connection requirements. Please contact our sales department for additional information.
Q: Do I need to connect the enable pin?
A: No, it is not necessary to have the enable pin connected. The enable pin is preset in the converter to allow for normal converter operation when left unconnected (floating). To activate the enable function minimal external circuitry will be required. In most of the Semiconductor Circuits, Inc. models the enable pin being pulled low will turn the converter off.
Q: What qualifies as a custom?
A: Any design that varies out of the listed specifications for standard products would be a custom design.
Q: Who do I contact regarding a custom application?
A: Contact an applications engineer at applications@dcdc.com, or complete our Custom Request Form.
Q: How much is the NRE for modified-standard products?
A: We do not charge NRE for simple modifications to our standard products.
